By Betty Dotson-Lewis
Award winning Bluegrass Musician, Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver will entertain fans at Music in the Mountains Bluegrass Festival on Saturday, June 27th, 2015 beginning 8:30 p.m. with one 90 minute show.  With almost 40 albums to their credit, Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver have multiple Grammy, Dove, ICM, IBMA and SPBGMA Award nominations, and are seven-time winners of IBMA’s Vocal Group of the Year Award.

Doyle growing up  was inspired by Bill Monroe, “The Father of Bluegrass”.  He listened to Monroe on the Grand Ole Opry.  He became interested in playing the mandolin around the age of eleven.  His father borrowed a mandolin from Willis Byrd, family friend and fellow musician.  He taught  himself to play the instrument and later, he learned to play the guitar and banjo.  He first played professionally with Jimmy Martin in 1963, then J.D. Crowe in 1966.  He joined the Country Gentleman in 1971 and played with them until he formed his own band in 1979.

Doyle Lawson, a Bluegrass Legend,  broke new ground in 2011 when he began a Children’s Hospital and Arena Tour, the first of its kind.  Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver performed for nearly 108,000 people, not including Live broadcast audiences for the NBA and NCAA games during 2011.  They sang their first NASCAR Anthem in 2012, kicking off  Spring All-Star Weekend at Charlotte Motor Speedway.  He performed the National Athem for NASCAR’s Education Lottery 200 in May in front of 165,000 screaming fans in the presence of other  superstars on hand  including Tim McGraw and Blake Shelton.
